And the winners are...


Meghan Dewald Meghan Dewald, soprano, is a second year Master of Music student studying with Costanza Cuccaro. She recently performed the leading role of Camelia la Tejana in the world premiere of Gabriela Ortiz’s “videopera” ¡ÚNICAMENTE LA VERDAD! at the IU Jacobs School of Music. Other appearances include Diana in William Bolcom’s A WEDDING with IU Opera Theater and she “sang in riveting fashion” as Margarita Xirgu in the collegiate premiere of Osvaldo Golijov’s AINADAMAR at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Dewald’s operatic credits include the roles of Juliette in ROMEO ET JULIETTE (OperaWorks tour) and Berta in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA with Kentucky Opera; First Lady in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE and Suor Dolcina in SUOR ANGELICA at Northwestern University. She has been the recipient of several awards including the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition and Friends of Music scholarship at Indiana University. Dewald is a native of Reading, Pennsylvania and completed her Bachelor of Music degree magna cum laude at Northwestern University.


Steven EbelSteven Ebel
tenor, just returned to New York from a summer as a Tanglewood Vocal Fellow. There he performed music of Schubert, Strauss, Flanders & Swann and Jolas in recial. In Pirates of Penzance this March with Opera Delaware he was noted for his "clear and strong singing" (The News Journal). He also sang II Postiglione in La Fanciulla del West with the New York City Opera and Tito in La clemenza di Tito with New York Opera Studio. He has performed two solo recitals in New York: "A Tenor's Songbook" and a program of music by Benjamin Britten entitled "Sonnets and Songs of the Isles." Mr. Ebel is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison during his time at the university he performed as Nanki-Poo in The Mikado, Orpheus in Orpheus in the Underworld , Arturo in Lucia Di Lammermoor and Dr. Miracle in Dr. Miracle. While in Wisconsin he performed as The Prince in a touring version of Rusalka (A Mermaids Tale) with Opera for the Young. Recently he took second place in the 2005 New York Oratorio Society Solo Competition and won first prize for the Long Island Masterworks Paul Straney Award in June. Upcoming performances include two concerts this springwith New Music New York.


Jesse Enderle

Jesse Enderle is excited to have started his first semester of graduate study at University of Michigan where he studies with Stephen Lusmann. This past summer he attended Seagle Music Colony where he performed the role of Schaunard in LA BOHEME as well as 2nd Armored Man in THE MAGIC FLUTE and Harry in Sondheim’s COMPANY. This semester he will be singing the role of Prince Gremin the University of Michigan Opera Theatre production of EUGENE ONEGIN followed by Sid in Britten’s ALBERT HERRING during the winter term. Jesse looks forward to the next two years as a time of greater discovery and exploration into the world of music.

 


James KryshakJames N. Kryshak, tenor, native to Baldwinsville, NY graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Music (Applied Voice) and German from Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Illinois. He has studied many genres of vocal music including; Classical, Operatic, Musical Theater, and Vocal Jazz. Opera roles include: Pelléas (Pelléas et Mélisande); Ernesto (Don Pasquale); Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte); Frederik (Pirates of Penzance); and Nanki-Poo (The Mikado). Musical Theater roles include: The Leading Player (Pippin!); Sky Masterson (Guys and Dolls); Fagin (Oliver); Dickon (Secret Garden); Narrator and Old Man (Into the Woods); Prince Charming (Cinderella); Tin Man (The Wiz). In 2004-05 James studied in Vienna, Austria under the direction of Michèle Friedman (University of Vienna, Vienna Conservatory). He received a grant in 2006 to return to Vienna in order to continue study with Ms. Friedman. In the summer of 2006, James attended the Tyrolean Opera Program under the direction of Ms. Elizabeth Bachman. While at TOP Opera, James studied with Julia Faulkner (Vienna Staatsoper, The Metropolitan Opera, University of Wisconsin Madison). James was a Finalist in the Ferrucio Tagliavini International Vocal Competition in Deutschlandsberg, Austria (April 2005) as well as a Semi-Finalist in the Klassik Mania Competition in Vienna (July 2005). Currently he is seeking a Masters of Music Degree in Opera Performance at the University of Wisconsin Madison where he continues vocal study with Julia Faulkner. Upcoming engagements include Camille de Rosillon in Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow as well as the Bartender in a new commissioned work by Minnesota composer Maura Bosch entitled, Art & Desire.


Jamie Van EyckJamie Van Eyck
, mezzo-soprano, is rapidly establishing herself as an accomplished singer of both operatic and concert repertoire. She has recently performed with Santa Fe Opera, Utah Opera, The Wolf Trap Opera Company, Opera Boston, The Tanglewood Music Festival, The National Symphony Orchestra, and The L.A. Philharmonic. Ms. Van Eyck has been a featured soloist in productions and concerts with James Levine, Marvin Hamlisch, and Keith Lockhart. She has premiered numerous contemporary compositions and is a recording artist with Bridge Records of New York. Ms. Van Eyck is a student of Julia Faulkner and holds degrees from The New England Conservatory of Music and The University of Wisconsin-Madison.
